Dear Bishop McElroy:
My name is Kailey Chan, and I am a candidate of my school’s Confirmation program. This program has taught me many matters about being a catholic such as, Jesus’ teachings, and the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. I have learned about Confirmation itself and how you are being welcomed into the Church again. I have also learned that Jesus is the only path to Confirmation. I believe I am prepared to receive my fourth sacrament of Confirmation. I am writing in regards to present why I am a good candidate to receive my fourth sacrament.
As a catholic I have learned, and have lived out Jesus’ teachings. I have been living out Jesus’ teachings by going to mass every weekend, altar serving, and praying to ask of something from God. I also help with St. Cecilia’s Sunday school program as service. I promise to live out Jesus’ teachings in the future by caring for others, and serving others such as my family and community. In one Confirmation meeting at school, we were told sometimes after people are confirmed, they are no longer active Christians and don’t go to Mass. I promise to continue to go to Mass after I am confirmed.
In my class and in Confirmation meetings, we are taught about the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. We receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit when we are baptized to live and follow Jesus. They are also sealed in us on Confirmation. When we cooperate with the gifts we receive, we see the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In my life, I practice the gifts of knowledge and reverence. I use knowledge because it enables me to make the right decisions so I can have better experiences. The fruits of the Holy Spirit such as patience help me in times when I am angered or annoyed.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, I hope to see you for Confirmation in May.
Sincerely,
Kailey
